work experience at LaSelva

We welcome a small number of students and Wwoofs to our farm from May to October every year. They do field work, help with processing, pick grapes and work in the winery. Harvest time is the busiest: there are lots to do and lots to learn about the principles of organic farming. However, applicants should remember that it gets very hot in the Maremma in July and August and the physical work in the harvest and processing can be strenuous. Of course, the Tyrrhenian Sea, just 3 km away with its sandy beaches and craggy bays, offers a refreshing change. And many small celebrations and festivals provide a well earned change in the evenings after a hard day’s work.

Applicants must have reached the age of majority and stay at least 1 month, preferably longer. Students work according to Wwoof guidelines which means 33 hours per week work for free food and board.  Accommodation is provided in double rooms in a self-catering apartment. They look after themselves with all the products in our Farm Shop and the large freezer. We provide a moped, but it is better if the students are motorised because there is no public transport and cycling is very arduous in the heat. A little knowledge of Italian is useful, but not a requirement as the communicativeness of the Italian staff makes contact easy without many words.
